If you have passion for the aquatic world then Hastings’ Blue Reef Aquarium would like to hear from you.
The Rock-a-Nore Road wildlife attraction is on the lookout for volunteers to join their zoological team.
They will get the opportunity to work with an amazing array of creatures including a wide variety of both tropical and native fish, giant Pacific octopus and the aquarium’s extensive reptile collection.
All volunteers will have to be able to commit to at least one day per week during the main season and provide a copy of their CV.
Blue Reef’s Leanna Lawson said: “We are looking for confident, outgoing individuals. As part of their role they will need to interact with visitors and perform some aquatic husbandry tasks.
“Experience with fish keeping would be beneficial but is not necessary. Candidates should however be enthusiastic, have a passion for the environment and a desire to learn. Candidates must also be studying in this field.
“The roles would include: basic tank maintenance and cleaning, interacting with visitors, giving short educational talks and general house-keeping around the aquarium,” she added.
Hastings Blue Reef Aquarium takes visitors on an undersea voyage from the drama of the British coastline to the spectacular ‘underwater gardens’ of the Mediterranean and the dazzling beauty of exotic tropical reefs.
Highlights include the open top ray tanks showcasing local species and the spectacular ocean reef display, complete with its own 15-metre-long underwater walkthrough tunnel.
More than 40 other naturally themed displays are home to a variety of marine and freshwater species from around the world including giant octopus, seahorses, stingrays, archer fish, lobsters and crabs.
